Rules are being ignored

Manure or process wastewater may not be applied within 100 feet of a direct conduit to groundwater.

That’s a direct quote from the Department of Natural Resources regulations for manure or wastewater disposal on the land (3.7.1 General Spreading Restrictions).

Here’s a recent example that shows manure spread in a 10-12 foot wide swath around a field adjacent to a stream bed. The manure appears to be less than 100 feet to the stream (not physically measured).

We hope it won’t take someone getting deathly ill, or even dead, before laws are taken seriously and strictly enforced.
