Blue Sky/Green Water

This photo shows the green sludge on the Lake Michigan shoreline that perhaps contributed to a recent closing of Crescent Beach in Algoma. It also shows how much lower the water level is in Lake Michigan as the black rock  (18 inches from base to top) was covered by water only two years ago. The cycle continues: clearer water caused by the filtering effect of zebra and quagga mussels, lower water levels allowing deeper penetration of sunlight, a hotter and drier than usual summer following a winter with less snowfall than usual, and ample nutrients in the water to feed the Cladophora algae.
